Promoting Responsible Mining at State & Federal Levels

MiningMinnesota advocates at the State Capitol and in Washington, D.C., engaging with legislators and their staff on legislation, policy, and regulations affecting Minnesota’s mining industry.

We also work alongside the National Mining Association (NMA), American Exploration and Mining Association (AEMA), and Women’s Mining Coalition (WMC) on comment letters, congressional testimony, and engagement with federal lawmakers.

Advocacy Grounded in Facts and Experience

Good policy starts with good information. MiningMinnesota brings science, engineering, industry experience, and the perspectives of Minnesota communities to conversations about mining policy.

Our members are the people doing the work. They explore, design, operate, monitor, and manage mining projects every day. We bring those “boots on the ground” experiences and perspectives to decision makers, helping policymakers understand what regulations look like in practice and how policy decisions affect the people and communities closest to the work.

The world isn’t deciding whether it needs more copper and nickel. It’s deciding where those minerals will come from.
Minnesota can have both mining and a clean environment, and we can be a model for the rest of the world.
Every one of us participates in mining, maybe not as a producer but as a consumer, every purchase carrying a decision about where those minerals came from.
Mining is fundamental to our lives today and more important than ever for our future.
When we engage solely in an effort to block, delay and divert sourcing of minerals to ‘somewhere else’ mined by ‘someone else,’ we are ignoring and outsourcing the needed conversation.
